BA Theatre Opportunities
University Theatre presents a varied repertory of classics and contemporary works where undergraduates get prime experience under the leadership of guest directors, designers, and the faculty. The Xperimental Theatre is run by the students themselves, and heavily features original works. And every summer, we offer the Minnesota Centennial Showboat, where BA candidates can collaborate with students from the University of Minnesota/Guthrie Theater BFA Actor Training Program in presenting traditional melodramas and olios, and, in many cases, getting their first paid theatre job. There are also unparalleled opportunities for students interested in arts marketing and administration, and stage management. We encourage our theatre and dance students to work and develop performances with students from visual arts and music.
Minneapolis and St. Paul host over 200 theatre companies, many of which offer internships for students. Our cosmopolitan location also attracts a variety of guest artists. Recent student workshops and residencies have included actor/playwright Sam Shepard, solo performance artist Tim Miller, African American storyteller Robbie McCauley, innovative puppeteer Theodora Skipitares, director Anne Bogart, and cultural theorist Peggy Phalen.
